DEVI NAVRATRI CELEBRATIONS 2008

Navratri is celebrated in the honor of Goddess Durga. Goddess Durga took different incarnations, killing nine evil forces or asuras. Each day of Navratri is devoted to one avatar. Following are the details of each of the 9 days celebrated by Karya Sidhi Hanuman Temple with the beloved blessings of Parama Pujya Sri Swamiji.

Day1
Tuesday, September 30, 2008 - First day of Navaratri
Diety: Gowri Annarchana: Milk and Rice Archana: Turmeric Roots
Navratri 2008 started today at the Hanuman Temple in Frisco. The Devi idol was brought especially from India and dressed beautifully for the festival and it set the mood for the celebrations. Even Lord Hanuman was dressed up for the festival. After the chanting of the Lalita Sashranama and singing bhajans in praise of Devi, devotees received blessings from Devi and enjoyed mahaprasad.

Day2
Wednesday, October 1, 2008 - Second day of Navaratri
Diety: Raja Rajeshwari Annarchana: Mudganna Archana: Cloth
Second day of Navarathri was celebrated by reciting Lalitha Sahsranama, Lakshmi puja and followed by various Devi Bhajans and Gharba. Various devotees took part in the Garbha in the back ground of some very traditional Gujarati folklore.

Thursday, October 2, 2008 - Third day of Navaratri
Diety: Durgi Lakshmi Annarchana: Sarshapa Anna Archana: Kunkuma
During today's program, devotees celebrated the third day of Navaratri by reciting the Lalitha Sahsranama, chanting MahaLakshmi Ashtakam, singing various Devi Bhajans, and performing Arathi to Devi. A lively Garba followed the puja. Many of the devotees performed Garba to traditional Gujarati style music and had lots of fun.

Friday, October 3, 2008 - Fourth day of Navaratri
Diety: Meenakshi Annarchana: Bisibele Rice Archana: Flowers
During today's program, devotees celebrated the fourth day of Navaratri by reciting the Lalitha Sahsranama, chanting MahaLakshmi Ashtakam, singing various Devi Bhajans, and performing Arathi to Devi. A lively Garba followed the puja.

Saturday, October 4, 2008 - Fifth day of Navaratri
Diety: Parashakti Annarchana: Lemmon Chitranna Archana: Lemons
The diety for this Mahotsav is a Pancha loha Raja Rajeswari that was exclusively designed and crafted by Datta Peetham, Mysore. This day was celebrated on a grand scale in Mooneyham Elementary School, McKinney, TX. It was an all day blissful celebration by devotees flocking from various areas in Dallas Metroplex area. The day started of with Abhishekam to the Goddess followed by Trishati Archana, kumari Puja and Arathi. The Pancha loha Raja Rajeswari Goddess was gorgeously decorated and placed over the stage for a good view for all the devotees. After having MahaPrasadam, Samoohika Lalitha Sahasranaama Parayana was done. After the puja, various classical Dance performances were done by local dance group schools in Dallas Metroplex area. In the evening, Sri Lalitha Sahasranama Kumkumarchana was done by the devotees each having silver Lalitha Devi’s coin and performed kumkuma puja followed Arathi and Kakadarathi. After evening MahaPrasadam, all the devotees were excited to get on the Dhandia floor for Garba and traditional Dhandia with Gujarati folklore. All the devotees danced with full energy and blissfully ended the program.

Sunday, October 5, 2008 - Sixth day of Navaratri
Diety: Vishalakshi Annarchana: Sugar Pongal Archana: Betal Leaves
During today's program, devotees celebrated the sixth day of Navaratri by reciting the Lalitha Sahsranama, chanting MahaLakshmi Ashtakam, singing various Devi Bhajans, and performing Arathi to Devi. Many of the devotees performed Garba to traditional Gujarati style music and had lots of fun.

Monday, October 6, 2008 - Seventh day of Navaratri
Diety: Saraswati Annarchana: Tamarind Rice Archana: Vada
During today's program, devotees celebrated the seventh day of Navaratri by reciting the Lalitha Sahsranama, chanting MahaLakshmi Ashtakam, singing various Devi Bhajans, and performing Arathi to Devi. A lively Garba was followed the puja. Many of the devotees performed Garba to traditional Gujarati style music and had lots of fun.

Diety: Chandi Annarchana: Jaggery Rice Archana: Coins
During today's program, devotees celebrated the eighth day of Navaratri by reciting the Lalitha Sahsranama, chanting MahaLakshmi Ashtakam, singing various Devi Bhajans, and performing Arathi to Devi with two songs. Many new people attended the event and joined in the Garba followed the puja. All the devotees enjoyed the traditional music and danced in the Garba.

Wednesday, October 8, 2008 - Ninth day of Navaratri
Diety: Shakti Durgi Annarchana: Yogurt rice Archana: Coconuts
During today's program, devotees celebrated the ninth day of Navaratri by reciting the Lalitha Sahsranama, chanting MahaLakshmi Ashtakam, singing various Devi Bhajans, and performing Arathi to Devi. Each new devotee that attended the event or joined in the Garba and added to the magic of the celebrations. All the devotees enjoyed the wonderful mahaprasad, lovingly prepared and served by temple volunteers, while listening to Devi bhajans and traditional music that accompanied the Garba dancing.

Day10
Thursday, October 9, 2008 - Tenth (and last) day of Navaratri
Diety: Poornakala RajaRajeshwari Annarchana: Laddu Archana: Laddu
Today, on the most auspicious Vijaya Dashami day, is the last night of Navaratri celebrations! The devotees were allowed to perform a special Abhisekam after which Garba and Batkamma, a traditional folk dance of Andhra Pradesh was hosted. Activities included special abhishekam to Goddess Durga, chanting of the Lalitha Sahasranama, singing of Devi bhajans, and dancing to the lyrical Batkamma and rhythmic Garba. Further, over ten days of Navratri, there was an extraordinary response from the devotees. Karya Siddhi Hanuman Temple is blessed with such an enthusiastic, devotional community. We trust that each of you would participate in the development of this institution and build it to greater heights.
