Sri Swamiji Says

A true and competent father will show equal love to all his children without any selfish motive.

If one of his children turns cruel and starts harming his brothers, the father will not have any feeling of hatred or grudge against the erring son. He will chose the right time to give the right kind of punishment so that it bears the desired result - namely bringing the erring son to the right path. In doing so, he will be displaying the right kind of responsibility, love and ability. He will then be able to see the fruition of his dreams - that his children live harmoniously with mutual love.

In the same way, even the Almighty Lord wants his children to thrive and achieve divinity. Therefore, he will treat all his children equally. This is the real meaning of the expression 'all are God's children'.

Lord Hanuman Story

In the last newsletter, we learned that Lord Surya agreed to be Sri Hanuman's guru.  But Hanuman had to keep up with Surya's chariot as it travelled at the speed of light as a condition of his training.

Did you know that the speed of light as calculated by ancient Vedic scholars is very close to the value used by modern scientists?

Hanuman did not relish running along with the chariot. So he increased his size and placed one foot on the eastern (sunrise) mountains and the other on the western (sunset) mountain range and placed his head inside the chariot. Thus passed the next six days of his learning. After seven days, he had acquired all the knowledge Lord Surya had to impart. Such was the ashtonishing speed with which Hanuman learned!

Towards the end of his education, Anjaneya took a sacred vow of celibacy and performed severe penance for a long time. While Hanuman was performing penance, Lord Surya attended to some domestic matters.

Lord Surya was the son of Sage Kashyap and his wife, Aditi. While Surya's wife, Sanjna Devi, was the daughter of Vishwakarma, the celestial architect. Together they had a son named Sraddhadeva, who became a Vaivastava manu, a celestial poisition of great authority.

Sanjna Devi was unable to bear the brightness of Lord Surya and so she closed her eyes every day for long periods of time. Surya became angry and cursed her to beget a son who will permanently close the eyes of all creatures. Hence, Lord Yama, God of death, was born to them.

After this, Sanjna Devi struggled to keep her eyes open. But, her attention always wandered jumping from one thing to another. Lord Surya again was angered and pronounced that she will bear a daughter who is ever moving! So Yami or Yamuna was born and she became a river.

These incidents greatly annoyed Sanjna Devi. Not wanting further ones, she created a women from her shadow named Chaaya Devi - an exact replica of herself. Then she left her "double" at home and went to her parent's house.

Will be continued...
Thank you for supporting the Hanuman Temple and your patience and understanding during the construction. Jai Hanuman!

Sincerely,
Karya Siddhi Hanuman Temple Team
